Egyptian FM discusses U.S.-Iran negotiations with Iranian counterpart, U.S. envoy

CAIRO, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday discussed the development of the U.S.-Iran negotiation process with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and U.S. president's special envoy Steve Witkoff.

In separate phone calls, Abdelatty exchanged views on ways to advance the negotiation track and the efforts being made to reach a consensual settlement, said a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing to push toward a solution to the crisis, emphasizing that Egypt will continue its efforts in cooperation with regional partners to help facilitate a settlement that addresses the concerns of all parties and supports regional security and stability, said the statement.

Iran and the United States are working to finalize a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on ending the war that started on Feb. 28 with joint attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The two sides reached a temporary ceasefire on April 8. Over the past weeks, they have exchanged several proposed plans outlining conditions for ending the conflict through Pakistani mediation.
