BAGHDAD, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday emphasized the necessity of joint Arab coordination to stabilize the region amid rapidly evolving security developments.
During a phone call, both leaders emphasized the importance of "continuing joint Arab coordination and intensifying efforts to advance dialogue and prioritize the diplomatic track," according to a statement from al-Sudani's media office.
They also stressed the need to immediately halt the ongoing war and avoid a slide into broader instability that threatens the region as a whole, it said.
The statement noted that the two sides called on the international community to assume its legal responsibilities by taking action to stop military operations, prevent further escalation and its serious repercussions on the global economy, and ensure the sustainability of regional and international peace and stability.
The call came amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran starting on Feb. 28, to which Iran and its regional allies responded with attacks on Israeli and U.S. interests across the Middle East.
