JERUSALEM -- Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz announced on Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"I feel good," Gantz tweeted about his diagnosis. "In the coming days I will conduct defense matters from my home." (Israel-Minister-COVID19)


CAIRO -- The spread of COVID-19 has prompted the Egyptian Health Ministry to tighten up health restrictions at airports, seaports and land crossings.

Starting Saturday, "Egyptian and foreign travellers to Egypt, except children below the age of 12, will be required to present certificates of coronavirus vaccination or negative results of coronavirus tests," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday. (Egypt-Entry-Restriction)


ISTANBUL -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that his country is ready to act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia to sustain peace in the region.

"We want peace to prevail in the region, and for this, we are ready to do our part," he told reporters in Istanbul after Friday prayers. (Turkey-Russia-Ukraine)


ANKARA -- Turkey on Friday reported 72,555 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 10,808,770, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 181 to 85,600, while 87,192 more people recovered in the last 24 hours. (Turkey-COVID19)
