CAIRO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Egypt expressed on Thursday its strong rejection of Israel's recent demolition of a Palestinian house at Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
"The current attempts to displace Palestinian families from their homes at Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood violate the decisions of international legitimacy and the international humanitarian law," Egyptian Foreign Ministry's Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.
Egypt viewed the demolition as "continuation of the policy of forced displacement of Palestinians," warning it would aggravate the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Egypt reiterated its rejection of Israel's settlement policy in the Palestinian territories, whether through building new settlements or expanding existing ones, as well as confiscating lands and displacing Palestinians.
The continuation of such Israeli unilateral measures "undermines the chances for reaching a two-state solution," and frustrates efforts to establish a comprehensive and just peace in the region, Hafez added.
