ABUJA -- The cholera outbreak in Nigeria has killed 2,404 people in the country since its onset in January, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control said on Tuesday.

CAIRO -- Former Egyptian Minister of Defense Mohamed Hussein Tantawi died on Tuesday at the age of 85 after suffering health problems for the past three months, Egypt's presidential office said in a statement.

BEIJING -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 jolted 81 km NW of Arauco, Chile at 1314 GMT on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

ADEN, Yemen -- The Houthi rebel fighters achieved on-ground military progress and captured key areas in southern Yemen's oil-rich province of Shabwa on Tuesday, a military official told Xinhua.

The local military source said on condition of anonymity that the Houthis carried out an all-out offensive and captured Bayhan district in the province, where key oil fields are located. (Yemen-Houthis)
