NEW YORK CITY, New York: The 435,000 students enrolled at the State University of New York and the City University of New York must have received the Coronavirus vaccination if they wish to attend classes in the fall.

The requirement comes as officials see a drop throughout the state of people being vaccinated.
"So, today, no excuses," New York governor Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a briefing during the week. "SUNY and CUNY boards will require vaccinations for all in-person students coming back to school in the fall."

Cuomo also said that riders of New York City's subways will receive free seven-day passes after being inoculated. Further, vaccinations will be administered at some subway stations.

Also, the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North lines will offer two one-way passes for riders who receive a shot at their station sites, he added.

"So think about this," the governor said. "You are walking into the subway station anyway. You are walking past the vaccination site. It's a one-shot vaccination. Stop, take a few minutes, get the vaccine."

Additionally, the New York Yankees and Mets baseball teams are offering free tickets to those who become vaccinated, and half of the tickets for upcoming New York Islanders National Hockey League playoff games are reserved for vaccinated fans.

New York has reported enormous progress in reducing the spread of the virus, with COVID-19 hospitalizations down 75 percent.

To date, more than 60 percent of New York adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine, however the number of those who are vaccinated was declining in New York and across the country.

Also, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that Lincoln Center, the Bronx Zoo and the Staten Island Ferry will provide free admissions to those who become vaccinated.

"It's true that the supply has finally gotten to a point that it exceeds the demand," de Blasio said.
