WARSAW, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Poland men's handball team smashed Brazil 33-23 in the preliminary round of the IHF World Championship in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.

Both teams have advanced into the next round after Spain beat Tunisia 36-30 earlier on the day.

At the start of the match, Poland played well in defense as Brazil wasn't able to break the deadlock for over six minutes. The Brazilians couldn't find a way to stop Szymon Sicko and Arkadiusz Moryto, who both scored six goals to be their team's most prolific players, while Haniel Langaro was top scorer for Brazil with four goals.

After the first half Poland was leading 13-11. Brazil had a huge chance to level the game by playing two minutes in advantage but they couldn't find the net just before the break.

In the second half Poland increased the gap. Goalkeeper Adam Morawski made excellent saves, while Maciej Majdzinski was a nightmare for the Brazilians at the other end of the pitch as he scored four in a short period. Poland won 33-23 to start the next round with two points.

In the second phase, Poland and Brazil will battle against Uruguay, Germany and Hungary.
