BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

OTTAWA -- Canadians show different attitudes toward getting vaccinated when a COVID-19 vaccine becomes available in the country, according to a survey released by the Canadian Angus Reid Institute on Tuesday.

The survey showed that 46 percent of the respondents say they have no reservations and are ready to get a vaccination as soon as it becomes available. However, 32 percent say they would wait and see.

QUITO -- Ecuador will reopen 40 beaches to visitors five months after closing them to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Tourism Minister Rosi Prado said on Tuesday.

The opening on Wednesday of beaches in the five coastal provinces of Guayas, Santa Elena, Manabi, Esmeraldas and El Oro, aims to reactivate tourism, she said, adding the public would still need to observe social distancing measures.

BANJUL -- Health Minister of The Gambia Amadou Samateh was put under quarantine Tuesday while the mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, tested positive for the coronavirus.

For Samateh, he checked into quarantine on Tuesday after three other ministers were confirmed to have been infected earlier, who were Finance Minister Mambury Njie, Energy Minister Fafa Sanyang and Agriculture Minister Amie Fabureh.

CAIRO -- Egypt recorded on Tuesday 112 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total infections in the country to 94,752, the Egyptian Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, 24 more patients died from the respiratory disease in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 4,912, the ministry's spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 15 new coronavirus death cases on Tuesday, bringing the total death cases to 561.

This is the highest daily increase of death cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in Israel in late February, as the previous record was 14, registered on Saturday.

SANTIAGO -- The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday that the number of cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country has risen to 362,962, with 9,745 deaths.

According to the ministry, 1,462 new cases and 38 more deaths from the virus were registered in the last 24 hours.

HOUSTON -- U.S. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards on Tuesday said the state's current Phase 2 restrictions will be extended for three more weeks to rein the spread of COVID-19.

According to an announcement, the current restrictions, including a ban on in-person consumption at bars and statewide mask mandate, will continue to be in effect until the end of August.

STOCKHOLM -- Anders Tegnell, Sweden's state epidemiologist at the Public Health Agency, told Swedish Radio (SR) on Tuesday that Sweden would not recommend the use of face masks as the agency was still waiting for more research results supporting the positive effect of face masks on reducing the spread of COVID-19.

Tegnell made the remarks just one day after the Karolinska Institutet (KI) unveiled their findings that cloth face masks can reduce the COVID-19 spread, and recommended the use of face masks to contain the pandemic.

BAKU -- A team of Chinese medical experts arrived here on Tuesday to share their knowledge of and experience in COVID-19 treatment with their Azerbaijani counterparts.

The 10-man team also delivered the last batch of protective equipment donated to Azerbaijan by the Chinese government.
