China Eastern Airlines denies merger talks
Egypt News.Net Friday 25th July, 2008
China Eastern Airlines, which is the country's third largest carrier, has denied rumors of a merger plan with Shanghai Airlines.
A merger of the two carriers had earlier been rumoured as a means of consolidating aviation resources in Shanghai, one of the country's aviation centres.
But CEA has said in a statement that no merger talks have been held with CEA or any other airline.
CEA had signed a preliminary deal in September to sell a 24 percent stake to Singapore Airlines and the Singapore government’s investment arm Temasek Holdings.
The bid, however, was rejected in January by CEA shareholders.
